How to add questions to a teacher quiz on Quiz Pathshala?

After creating a quiz on Quiz Pathshala, teachers need to add questions to make the quiz ready for learners.

Questions can be added manually, imported through Excel, imported from Global Bank, or imported from My Question Bank.

Requirements before adding questions

Before adding questions, make sure these requirements are complete.

Teacher role is required

Your active role should be Teacher.

If your active role is Learner, switch to Teacher role before opening teacher features.

Active teacher access is required

To add or manage quiz questions, you need an active teacher plan or an active free trial, if available and eligible.

If your teacher plan or trial is not active, Teacher Dashboard features may be locked.

Quiz should be created first

You need to create a quiz before adding questions to it.

If you have not created a quiz yet, first create a quiz from the Add Quiz page.

Where can I add questions to a quiz?

You can add questions from the View All Quiz section.

Steps to open quiz question options

To open question options for a quiz:

• Login to your Quiz Pathshala account

• Switch to Teacher role

• Open the Teacher Dashboard

• Look at the left sidebar

• Click the Quiz menu

• Click View All Quiz

• Find the quiz where you want to add questions

• Use the available action buttons to add or import questions

The View All Quiz page shows your created quizzes and related action buttons for managing quiz questions.

Ways to add questions

Teachers can add questions to a quiz in different ways.

Available question methods

You can add questions by using:

• Manual question creation

• Excel question import

• Global Bank import

• My Question Bank import

Each method is useful for a different situation.

Add questions manually

Manual question creation is useful when you want to create custom questions directly for a quiz.

When should I use manual question creation?

Use manual question creation when:

• You want to add a small number of questions

• You want full control over each question

• You are creating custom questions for your own learners

• You want to add or edit questions one by one

Manual question form details

When you add a question manually, you need to fill the question form carefully.

Question title

Question title is the main question text.

Write the question clearly so learners can understand what is being asked.

Question extra details

There may be an optional textarea field for extra question details.

You can use this field for additional information, passage, instruction, paragraph, reference text, or extra context related to the question.

Question type

You need to select the question type.

Question types may include:

• Single Choice

• Multiple Choice

• True / False

• Other available question types

The available fields may change based on the selected question type.

Add answer options

The manual question form contains option fields.

By default, 4 option fields may be shown.

Minimum options required

At least 2 options are required.

You can remove extra options if they are not needed.

For example, if you need only 2 options, you can keep 2 options and delete the remaining extra option fields.

Add more options

If you want to add more options, click the Add a New Option button.

This allows you to add extra options based on your question requirement.

Correct answer selection

After adding options, select the correct answer.

The correct answer field may show a dropdown based on the options you entered.

Choose the correct option from the dropdown.

For Single Choice questions

Select one correct answer.

For Multiple Choice questions

Select all correct answers, if the question type supports multiple correct options.

Always review correct answers before saving the question.

Explanation field

The explanation field is used to explain the question and answer.

Add a clear explanation so learners can understand why the answer is correct.

A good explanation helps learners learn from mistakes and improve their understanding.

Question status

The question form may include an Active / Inactive toggle.

Active question

If the question is active, it can be shown to learners based on quiz settings.

Inactive question

If the question is inactive, it will not be shown to learners.

Use inactive status when you want to save a question but do not want learners to see it yet.

Advanced option types

The manual question form includes an Enable Advanced Option Types toggle.

By default, this toggle is off.

When it is off, options work as text-only options.

When advanced option types are enabled

When you enable Advanced Option Types, you can choose different option types.

Available option types may include:

• Text-only option

• Image-only option

• Text and Image Option

• Code Snippet Option

More option types may be added or removed in the future.

Text-only option

Text-only option is selected by default.

Use this option type when your answer options contain only text.

Image-only option

Use Image-only option when each option should be an image.

After selecting this option type, you can upload or select images for the options.

You can still add or remove options, but at least 2 options are required.

Text and Image Option

Use Text and Image Option when each option needs both text and an image.

Code Snippet Option

Use Code Snippet Option for coding-related questions.

This option type allows you to add code snippets as answer options.

Advanced option types are available only in manual question creation

Advanced option types are available when you add questions manually.

If you want to create options with images, text and image together, or code snippets, use the manual question form.

These advanced option types are not available through Excel import.

Import questions using Excel

Excel import is useful when you want to add many questions at once.

Instead of creating each question manually, you can prepare questions in the required Excel format and import them into the quiz.

Excel import supports standard text-based questions

Excel import is mainly for standard text-based questions and options.

You cannot add image-only options, text and image options, or code snippet options through Excel import.

If your question requires images, text with images, or code snippets in options, add that question manually using the manual question form.

When should I use Excel import?

Use Excel import when:

• You have many questions

• You want to save time

• Your questions are already prepared in Excel

• You want to upload a full quiz question set quickly

• Your questions and options are text-based

Required Excel format

Your Excel file should follow the required column format.

Use these columns:

• Question

• Option1

• Option2

• Option3

• Option4

• Correct Answer

• Explanation

Correct Answer format

Correct Answer should use the numeric option value.

For example:

• Use 1 if Option1 is correct

• Use 2 if Option2 is correct

• Use 3 if Option3 is correct

• Use 4 if Option4 is correct

If multiple correct answers are supported for that question type, follow the required numeric format, such as 1,3.

Explanation

Explanation helps learners understand why an answer is correct.

Add questions to My Question Bank

My Question Bank is your private question bank.

You can add questions to My Question Bank manually or through Excel import.

New teacher accounts

If you are a new teacher, your My Question Bank may be empty at first.

You need to add questions manually or import questions through Excel before you can use My Question Bank questions in your quizzes.

How My Question Bank helps

After adding questions to My Question Bank, you can select questions from it and import them into any of your own quizzes.

This is useful when you want to reuse your own questions in multiple quizzes.

Import questions from My Question Bank into a quiz

After your My Question Bank has questions, you can import selected questions into your quiz.

When should I use My Question Bank?

Use My Question Bank when:

• You want to reuse your own questions

• You want to keep a private question collection

• You want to create questions once and use them in multiple quizzes

• You want better control over your own question content

Import questions from Global Bank

Global Bank contains questions added by the Quiz Pathshala team.

Teachers can select questions from Global Bank and import them directly into their own quizzes.

When should I use Global Bank?

Use Global Bank when:

• You want ready questions

• You want to save question creation time

• You want to add questions from available Quiz Pathshala question collections

• You do not want to create every question manually

Important Global Bank rule

Teachers cannot add questions to Global Bank.

Teachers cannot import questions into Global Bank.

Global Bank is a system-managed question bank and is managed by the Quiz Pathshala team.

Can I import Global Bank questions into My Question Bank?

No. Teachers cannot import Global Bank questions into My Question Bank.

If you want to use Global Bank questions, you can select them and import them directly into your quiz.

My Question Bank is for questions that you add manually or import through Excel into your own private bank.

Difference between Global Bank and My Question Bank

Global Bank and My Question Bank are different.

Global Bank

Global Bank contains questions added and managed by the Quiz Pathshala team.

Teachers can select Global Bank questions and import them directly into their quizzes.

Teachers cannot add, edit, or import questions into Global Bank.

My Question Bank

My Question Bank contains your own private questions.

You can add questions to My Question Bank manually or through Excel import.

You can then select questions from My Question Bank and import them into your own quizzes.

After adding or importing questions, review them carefully.

If imported questions are not showing correctly, check your Excel file format.

Common issues include:

• Wrong column names

• Empty question text

• Empty options

• Wrong Correct Answer format

• Numeric values entered incorrectly

• Unsupported formatting in Excel

• Duplicate or incomplete questions

Fix the Excel file and try importing again.

Why learners may not see questions in the quiz

Learners may not see questions if:

• No questions have been added to the quiz

• Questions were not imported correctly

• Questions are inactive

• The quiz is inactive

• The quiz mode is not enabled correctly

• The quiz schedule does not allow attempts

• The teacher plan is inactive

• There is a technical or account-related issue

Important note

Adding questions is an important step after creating a quiz.

A quiz without questions is not useful for learners.

Teachers can add questions to their own quiz and to their own My Question Bank, but teachers cannot add questions to Global Bank.

Always add questions, review correct answers, check explanations, and confirm quiz settings before sharing the quiz with learners.
