How do I activate or deactivate a quiz?
Control quiz availability without deleting the quiz.
Turn Activate Quiz off to stop learner access. Turn it on when ready; schedule and other access rules still apply.
Activate Quiz is the overall publishing switch. Enabled Standard/Practice/Live modes decide which choices appear. A mode enabled while the main quiz is inactive does not publish it.
Before you start: Sign in, switch to Teacher, and open the Teacher Dashboard with an active educator plan or trial.
Change status
- Open Quizzes → View All Quizzes and find the quiz.
- Click Edit.
- Set Activate Quiz on/off in publishing controls.
- Save.
Before activating
Review active questions, intended mode, scoring, schedule, reveal time and code. Your plan must be active and learner capacity available.
A code restricts attempts but does not hide the listing. See public/private access.
Useful information
When to leave it inactive
Use inactive status while adding/reviewing questions or preparing settings. It preserves the quiz instead of deleting it. Check active questions and the intended mode before turning the main status on.
Active does not mean open now
Schedule, code, attempts, plan/capacity or learner blocks can still prevent a start. A code restricts participation while a schedule controls timing. Saved past submissions may remain reviewable with active workspace access. Avoid deactivating a running test because it can affect in-progress submission.
