How to activate, deactivate, or hide a teacher quiz?
Learn how quiz active status works, when learners can see or attempt a quiz, and how teachers can temporarily stop quiz access.
Teachers can control whether their quizzes are active or inactive on Quiz Pathshala.
This helps teachers publish a quiz, temporarily stop access, or hide a quiz when it is not ready.
What is quiz active status?
Quiz active status controls whether a quiz can be available to learners.
Active quiz
An active quiz may be visible or available to learners based on quiz settings.
Learners may be able to attempt an active quiz if all required access rules are satisfied.
Inactive quiz
An inactive quiz is not available for learner attempts.
Use inactive status when you do not want learners to attempt the quiz.
When should I activate a quiz?
Activate a quiz when it is ready for learners to view or attempt.
Before activating, check these important settings.
Basic details
Make sure:
Quiz title is correct
Category is selected
Subcategory is selected if needed
Category is required, but subcategory may be optional depending on your quiz setup.
Quiz mode
Check which quiz mode you want to make available.
Enable Standard Quiz if you want learners to attempt the standard quiz option
Enable Practice Quiz if you want learners to attempt the practice quiz option
Enable Live Quiz if you want to run the quiz as a scheduled live quiz
If Live Quiz is enabled, Standard Quiz and Practice Quiz may be hidden or disabled automatically based on platform rules.
Questions
Add questions before activating the quiz.
A quiz may still become active without questions, but learners may see an empty quiz or may not be able to attempt it properly.
Also check:
Questions are correct
Options are correct
Correct answers are properly selected
Explanations are added if needed
Marks and scoring
Check marks and scoring settings.
If Marks per Question is blank, it may use 1 mark per question by default
Negative marking is optional
If you do not want negative marking, you can leave it blank or disabled
Passing percentage should be set correctly if required
Attempt limit
Check the attempt limit before activating the quiz.
If attempt limit is blank, learners may be able to attempt the quiz unlimited times based on quiz rules.
Set an attempt limit if you want to control how many times a learner can attempt the quiz.
Start and end time
Use start and end time only when you want to schedule the quiz.
If start date and time is set, the quiz will become available after that time
Before the start time, learners may see a countdown or upcoming status
If end date and time is set, learners may not be able to attempt the quiz after the end time
If only start time is set, the quiz may start on that time and remain available based on other settings
Access code
If the quiz is for selected learners only, add an access code before activating it.
If no access code is added, the quiz may be treated as public based on other quiz settings.
Final check
Before activating, make sure:
Quiz mode is correct
Questions are added
Scoring is correct
Attempt limit is correct
Schedule is correct, if used
Access code is correct, if required
Teacher plan or trial is active
When should I deactivate a quiz?
Deactivate a quiz when you want to stop learner access.
You may deactivate a quiz when:
The quiz is not ready
Questions need correction
Correct answers need review
Quiz settings are wrong
Schedule needs to be updated
You want to temporarily stop attempts
You no longer want learners to attempt that quiz
How to activate or deactivate a quiz
To update quiz status:
Login to your Quiz Pathshala account
Switch to Teacher role
Open the Teacher Dashboard
Go to the Quiz section
Open View All Quiz
Find the quiz you want to update
Open the edit option or status control
Set the quiz as active or inactive
Save the changes
After saving, the updated status will apply based on quiz rules and platform behavior.
Does active status make the quiz immediately attemptable?
Not always.
Active status is important, but other rules can still control learner access.
Even if the quiz is active, learners may not be able to attempt it if:
Start time has not arrived
End time has passed
Access code is required and learner does not have it
Attempt limit has been reached
No questions are added
Teacher plan or trial is inactive
Monthly learner limit is full
Learner is blocked by the teacher
Required quiz mode is disabled
Quiz mode status also matters
A quiz may have different modes such as:
Standard Quiz
Practice Quiz
Live Quiz
If a mode is disabled, learners may not see or attempt that mode.
For example:
If Standard Quiz is disabled, learners cannot attempt the Standard Quiz option
If Practice Quiz is disabled, learners cannot attempt the Practice Quiz option
If Live Quiz is enabled, the quiz follows Live Quiz schedule and result rules
Public and private quiz visibility
Teacher-created public and private quizzes may appear on the Educators page or educator profile.
Public quiz
A public quiz does not require an access code.
Private quiz
A private quiz requires the correct access code.
Private quizzes can still be visible on the educator profile page, but learners need the correct access code to attempt them.
Hiding a quiz from learner attempts
To hide or stop a quiz from learner attempts, teachers can use available controls such as:
Deactivate the quiz
Disable the required quiz mode
Set or update quiz schedule
Add access code to restrict access
The best option depends on why you want to stop access.
What happens to old attempts after deactivating a quiz?
Deactivating a quiz usually stops new learner attempts.
Old saved attempts may still remain available in the Teacher Dashboard, based on platform rules and data availability.
Teachers can review past saved attempts if those records are available.
Can I activate the quiz again later?
Yes. A teacher may activate the quiz again later if the option is available.
After reactivating, learners can attempt the quiz only if all other access rules are also satisfied.
Why learners may not see or attempt my quiz
Learners may not see or attempt a quiz if:
Quiz is inactive
Required quiz mode is disabled
Quiz start time has not arrived
Quiz end time has passed
Access code is required
Learner entered wrong access code
Attempt limit has been reached
No questions are added
Teacher plan or trial is inactive
Monthly learner limit is full
Learner is blocked by the teacher
There is a technical or account-related issue
Important note
Active status controls whether a quiz can be available for learners.
However, learner access also depends on quiz mode, access code, schedule, attempt limit, teacher plan status, monthly learner limit, blocked learner status, and platform rules.
Before sharing a quiz, always check both active status and all access-related settings.
