How to create a quiz as a teacher on Quiz Pathshala?

Learn how teachers can create categories, create quizzes, configure quiz modes, set rules, and add questions.

Teachers can create quizzes from the Teacher Dashboard on Quiz Pathshala.

Teacher-created quizzes can be used for practice, testing, revision, batch learning, coaching use, or personal educational use.

Requirements before creating a quiz

Before creating a quiz, make sure the following requirements are complete.

Teacher role is required

Your active role should be Teacher.

If your active role is Learner, switch to Teacher role before opening the Teacher Dashboard.

Active teacher access is required

To create and manage quizzes, you need an active teacher plan or an active free trial, if available and eligible.

If your teacher plan or trial is not active, the Teacher Dashboard may be locked.

Category is required

A quiz must be created inside a category.

This means at least one category should exist before creating a quiz.

Categories help teachers organize quizzes by subject, exam, class, batch, course, or topic.

Subcategory is optional

Subcategory is optional.

You can create a quiz with only a category, or you can also select a subcategory if you want better organization.

Subcategories are useful when you have many quizzes and want to organize them topic-wise, chapter-wise, subject-wise, or batch-wise.

Create category and subcategory first

Before creating a quiz, create a category if you do not already have one.

How to create a category

To create a category:

  • Open the Teacher Dashboard

  • Look at the left sidebar

  • Click the Category menu

  • The Category menu will expand and show sub-menu options

  • Click Add Category

  • Fill the category details

  • Save the category

Create subcategory from category form

You can also create a subcategory from the category form or category management section, if needed.

Subcategory is not required for every quiz, but it helps keep quizzes organized when you have many quizzes.

How to open the quiz create form

After creating or selecting a category, you can open the quiz create form.

Steps to open Add Quiz page

To open the quiz create form:

  • Open the Teacher Dashboard

  • Look at the left sidebar

Fields in Basic Information

You may need to fill details such as:

  • Title

  • Slug

  • Category

  • Subcategory

Title

Enter a clear quiz title so learners can understand what the quiz is about.

For example:

  • Maths Practice Quiz 01

  • Reasoning Standard Quiz 01

  • Chapter 1 Science Quiz

  • SSC CGL English Practice Set

Slug

Slug is required.

The slug is used in the quiz URL.

You can also edit the slug manually if you want to customize it.

Keep the slug short, clean, and readable.

Category

Category is required.

The category dropdown shows the categories created by you.

Select the correct category before creating the quiz.

Subcategory

Subcategory is optional.

If you have created subcategories under the selected category, you can select a subcategory.

If you do not want to use subcategory, you can leave it blank.

Quiz modes and status

Quiz modes decide how the quiz will work.

Standard Quiz

Enable Standard Quiz if you want to create a regular test-style quiz.

Standard Quiz can store learner results and attempt records.

When Standard Quiz is enabled, related Standard Quiz settings will appear in the form.

If Standard Quiz is disabled, the Standard Quiz option will not be shown or available to learners for that quiz.

Practice Quiz

Enable Practice Quiz if you want learners to practice quickly.

Practice Quiz is mainly for instant self-practice.

Practice Quiz result is not stored as a final saved result in the database.

When Practice Quiz is enabled, related Practice Quiz settings will appear in the form.

If Practice Quiz is disabled, the Practice Quiz option will not be shown or available to learners for that quiz.

Live Quiz

Live Quiz is used for live quiz participation and leaderboard-based activity.

When Live Quiz is enabled, Standard Quiz and Practice Quiz will be disabled automatically.

Live Quiz also sets the attempt limit to 1.

Live Quiz requires schedule-related settings, such as quiz start date and time, quiz end date and time, and scheduled answer reveal time.

Standard quiz settings

Standard Quiz settings apply when Standard Quiz is enabled.

Time Limit for All Questions

You can set the total time limit for the full quiz.

This time is usually entered in minutes.

If you leave it blank, the quiz may have no full-quiz time limit.

Number of Questions to Display

You can set how many questions should be displayed in the quiz.

If you leave it blank, all available questions may be displayed by default.

Marks per Question

You can set marks for each question.

If you leave it blank, each question will be counted as 1 mark by default.

Passing Percentage

Passing Percentage is required when Standard Quiz is enabled.

Enter the minimum percentage required to pass the quiz.

Negative Marking

You can set negative marking for wrong answers.

If you leave it blank, negative marking will be disabled.

Attempt Limit

You can set the maximum number of attempts allowed for learners.

If you leave it blank, learners can attempt the quiz unlimited times based on other quiz rules.

If Live Quiz is enabled, the attempt limit will be set to 1.

Quiz Start Date and Time

You can set the date and time when the quiz will become available.

This field uses a date and time picker, so you can select both the quiz start date and start time.

After selecting the date and time, the selected start time may be shown below the field for confirmation.

For example:

  • Quiz will start on Thursday, 23 July 2026 at 12:00 am.

For Standard Quiz, this field is optional.

If no start date is selected, the quiz may be available immediately after activation.

For Live Quiz, this field is required.

Quiz End Date and Time

You can set the date and time when the quiz will stop being available.

This field also uses a date and time picker.

After selecting the date and time, the selected end time may be shown below the field for confirmation.

For example:

  • Quiz will end on Saturday, 25 July 2026 at 12:00 am.

For Standard Quiz, this field is optional.

If you do not want an end date for Standard Quiz, you can leave it blank.

For Live Quiz, this field is required.

Answer Reveal Time

Answer Reveal Time controls when learners can see their result and answers after completing the quiz.

By default, Show answers immediately after quiz finishes may be selected.

This means learners can see their result and answers immediately after finishing the quiz.

Answer reveal options

The Answer Reveal Time dropdown may include options such as:

  • Show answers immediately after quiz finishes

  • Hour

  • Minute

  • Day

  • Specific Date

Show answers immediately

If Show answers immediately after quiz finishes is selected, learners can see answers as soon as they finish the quiz.

When this option is selected, the number field and specific date picker field may remain disabled because no delay or scheduled date is needed.

Hour, Minute, or Day option

If you select Hour, Minute, or Day, a number field will be enabled.

Enter the number based on the selected option.

For example:

  • If you select Hour and enter 4, answers will be shown 4 hour(s) after the quiz finishes.

  • If you select Minute and enter 20, answers will be shown 20 minute(s) after the quiz finishes.

  • If you select Day and enter 5, answers will be shown 5 day(s) after the quiz finishes.

A message may be shown below the field so you can confirm how the answer reveal setting will work.

Specific Date option

If you select Specific Date, the number field will be disabled and the date picker field will be enabled.

You can select the exact date and time when answers should be revealed.

This is useful when you want all learners to see answers only after a fixed scheduled time.

After selecting a specific date and time, a confirmation message may be shown below the field.

Answer reveal rule for Live Quiz

For Live Quiz, answers cannot be revealed immediately.

Answer reveal must be scheduled.

For Live Quiz, the answer reveal time should be after the Quiz End Date and Time.

It cannot be before the quiz end time.

Practice quiz settings

Practice Quiz settings apply when Practice Quiz is enabled.

Time Limit per Question

You can set a time limit for each question in Practice Quiz.

This time is usually entered in seconds.

Practice Quiz uses a per-question timer instead of a full quiz timer.

Practice Quiz result

Practice Quiz is mainly for self-practice.

Its final result is not stored as a saved result in the database.

Final publishing control

Final Publishing Control is the master visibility control for the entire quiz.

Activate Quiz

At the bottom of the quiz form, there may be an Activate Quiz checkbox or toggle.

To make the quiz visible or available to learners, this Activate Quiz option must be enabled.

How quiz visibility works

Quiz visibility depends on both the main Activate Quiz control and the selected quiz modes.

For example:

  • If Activate Quiz is disabled, the quiz will not be shown to learners even if Standard Quiz or Practice Quiz is enabled.

  • If Activate Quiz is enabled and Standard Quiz is enabled, the Standard Quiz option can be shown to learners based on other quiz rules.

  • If Activate Quiz is enabled but Standard Quiz is disabled, the Standard Quiz option will not be shown to learners.

  • If Activate Quiz is enabled and Practice Quiz is enabled, the Practice Quiz option can be shown to learners based on other quiz rules.

  • If Activate Quiz is enabled but Practice Quiz is disabled, the Practice Quiz option will not be shown to learners.

Before activating the quiz, review all quiz modes, schedule settings, question availability, and publishing status carefully.

What happens after creating a quiz?

  • Open the Teacher Dashboard

  • Look at the left sidebar

  • Click the Quiz menu

  • Click View All Quiz

The View All Quiz page may show quiz details and action buttons for managing the quiz.

Add questions to the quiz

After creating quiz details, you need to add questions.

Teachers can add questions in different ways.

Add questions manually

You can manually add questions to a quiz.

Manual question creation is useful when you want to create custom questions directly for that quiz.

Import questions using Excel

You can import questions directly into a quiz using an Excel file.

Excel import is useful when you want to add many questions at once.

Make sure your Excel file follows the required format before importing.

Import from Global Bank

Global Bank contains questions added by the Quiz Pathshala team.

Teachers can select useful questions from Global Bank and import them into their own quizzes.

Import from My Question Bank

My Question Bank is your private question bank.

You can add your own questions manually or through Excel, then select and import those questions into your quizzes.

Quiz management after creation

After a quiz is created, you can manage it from the View All Quiz page.

Depending on available options, you may be able to:

  • View quiz details

  • Edit quiz details

  • Add questions manually

  • Import questions through Excel

  • Import questions from Global Bank

  • Import questions from My Question Bank

  • Manage quiz status or settings

  • Review related quiz actions

Public and private quiz settings

Teachers can control who can access their quizzes.

Public quiz

If you make a quiz public, logged-in learners can attempt it from the Educators page or your educator profile, if access is available.

Learners do not need to pay Quiz Pathshala separately to attempt teacher-created public quizzes.

Access still depends on your active teacher plan, learner limit, quiz availability, and quiz rules.

Private quiz

If you make a quiz private, you can use an access code.

Only learners with the correct access code can attempt the private quiz.

Private quizzes are useful for selected learners, batches, classes, or restricted practice.

Review before saving

Before creating or activating a quiz, review all details carefully.

Check:

  • Quiz title

  • Slug

  • Category

  • Subcategory, if selected

  • Standard Quiz status

  • Practice Quiz status

  • Live Quiz status

  • Time limits

  • Number of questions to display

  • Marks per question

  • Passing percentage

  • Negative marking

  • Attempt limit

  • Quiz start date and time

  • Quiz end date and time

Can I view learner results?

Yes. If learners attempt a quiz created by you, you can view attempt and result details for that quiz.

This may include:

  • Learner name

  • Attempt date and time

  • Score

  • Selected answers

  • Correct and incorrect answers

  • Skipped questions

  • Question-wise performance

  • Overall result details

You can view result details only for quizzes created or managed by you.

Why learners may not be able to attempt your quiz

Learners may not be able to attempt your quiz if:

  • Your teacher plan is inactive

  • Your learner limit is full

  • The quiz is private and they do not have the correct access code

  • The quiz is not active

  • Standard Quiz is disabled and the learner is trying to attempt Standard Quiz

  • Practice Quiz is disabled and the learner is trying to attempt Practice Quiz

  • The quiz schedule does not allow attempts at that time

  • The learner has reached the attempt limit

  • There are no questions added to the quiz

  • There is a technical or account-related issue

Teacher content responsibility

Teachers are responsible for the quizzes and questions they create or upload.

Please make sure your content is:

  • Correct

  • Clear

  • Useful for learners

  • Not misleading

  • Not copied or unauthorized

  • Not based on leaked exam content

  • Compliant with Quiz Pathshala policies

Important note

Creating a quiz does not automatically guarantee that all learners can attempt it.

Learner access depends on quiz visibility, access code, schedule, attempt limit, teacher plan status, learner limit, quiz activation status, question availability, and platform rules.

Always review quiz settings carefully before sharing the quiz with learners.
